Community Safety Campaign

PHASE 1

In 1998, NYBC began a three-year pilot program to study dangerous intersections in four counties across New York State: Albany, Kings, Monroe, and Suffolk. The idea was to work with engineers and activists to brainstorm ways to implement basic fixes to dangerous intersections. The result of this safety campaign is a manual online now in a pdf version. The other result are a series of creative Public Service Announcements, produced for NYBC by iMedia Networks in NYC. The announcements feature kids giving bike safety tips. Please contact us for more information.

PHASE 2

Beginning in the Spring of 2002 and continuing through 2004, NYBC hit the road, putting on a workshop - download brochure. This "Roadshow," based on the Manual "Improving Bicycling and Pedestrian Safety: A Problem Solving Manual for Advocates and Transportation Professionals in New York State," promotes better communication between advocates and transportation professionals.

    Board Development

NYBC is actively seeking new board members and volunteers. We welcome activists, planners, and representatives from the private sector. Additionally, we are interested in working with individuals from agencies not traditionally aligned with bike-ped activities but who have a stake in transportation choice, e.g. tourism, handicapped, the elderly, minorities, the environment, smart growth, job training, etc. Our board members do not necessarily represent the organizations they work for, but bring to NYBC experience from many different parts of their lives.
