NYS Safe Streets Days of Action:
Tuesday, January 19, 2027
Wednesday, May 19, 2027
Join NYBC and advocates from around NYS as we head to Albany to talk to legislators about how important cycling is to our communities and what we need them to do to keep cyclists and pedestrians safe on New York's streets.
Past actions have led to successes including the NYC Pilot version of Stop Super Speeders (2026), Sammy's Law (2024), and local control of speed limits down to 25 mph (2022).
Sammy's Law gives NYC local control of speed limits on neighborhood streets down to 20 mph, and is named after Sammy Cohen Eckstein who was 12 years old in when he was killed by a speeding driver in Park Slope, Brooklyn in 2013.
NYBC co-chairs the NYS Safe Streets Coalition (NYSSSC), and we work with the NYSSSC Steering Committee to shift NYS towards better infrastructure, slower speed limits, safe vehicle design and technology, and other critical, proven solutions for street safety.
At the the Safe Streets Day of Action, YOU can help! Join us as we head to Albany to talk to legislators about how important cycling is to our communities and what we want our elected representatives to do right now to keep cyclists and pedestrians safe on New York's streets.
Never talked to a legislator before? Don’t worry! We offer trainings before the event and will pair you with a more experienced partner to make sure you have what you need to be a great advocate for safe cycling in New York.
And whether you participate in the Advocacy Day or not, please sign the petition here to let your NYS legislators know that you want safe streets for everyone: cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers, too!
The 2027 NYS Safe Streets Days of Action will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2027 and Wednesday, May 19, 2027 immediately following the NY-Bike Summit.
Please join NYS Safe Streets Coalition and the New York Bicycling Coalition as we travel together to Albany and lobby for the SAFE Streets Package.
Please join us in Albany by 10 am and plan to stay until around 4pm. If that timing is not possible for you, let us know what will work when you register. Please register and we will provide more details.
