NYBC had a tremendous year in 2025, thanks to supporters like you. We grew our membership, advocated for speed limit reductions, led the NYS Safe Streets Coalition, and brought our message of joy and safety in cycling to events in the Adirondacks, Western New York, the Hudson Valley and more. And we continued to build relationships with advocates, policymakers, and supporters from across the state. All of this is great news for New Yorkers who care about cycling and safe streets!

As you consider your year end giving this holiday season, we hope you will consider supporting NYBC.

Support NYBC

2026 is shaping up to be a year with a lot of change - and of big opportunities.

E-bike use is skyrocketing, and active transportation is reshaping how New Yorkers move. The NYS Department of Transportation is developing an Active Transportation Strategic Plan that will guide the state’s priorities for decades to come. At the federal level, Congress will take up the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act, which will have enormous ramifications on funding for bike lanes and other infrastructure. With your support, NYBC will be at the table - making sure cyclists and all vulnerable road users have a powerful voice.

The stakes are high: In 2024 alone, 49 cyclists and 303 pedestrians were killed, and thousands more seriously injured on New York’s roads. These crashes aren’t accidents - they are preventable and can be stopped with safer infrastructure, better vehicle technology, and stronger laws!

Cycling is important, not just because it is joyful – which it is! – but also because it strengthens our local economies, builds connected communities, reduces climate impact, provides affordable transportation, improves public health, and saves tax dollars on road repairs. Unfortunately, New York has a long way to go to provide safe, equitable, active transportation and recreation options. That’s why we’re asking for a year-end contribution. With your support, NYBC will have the resources to fight for safe streets in New York and to keep building a thriving cycling community.

NYBC is working to make New York’s streets safer through our advocacy, community-building, and educational initiatives – and our work depends on your support.

Here are just a few of the things that we have planned for 2026:

  • Help more NY communities lower local speed limits to 25 mph, adding to the 22 communities that have already made this inexpensive, life-saving change.

  • Lead New York’s delegation at the League of American Bicyclists National Bike Summit, helping colleagues to fight for Active Transportation in Washington.

  • Expand our work with the NYS Safe Streets Coalition to finally get important changes like a three-foot mandatory passing buffer for cyclists in New York.  It’s already the law in every other Northeastern state - and nearly everywhere in the US - New Yorkers deserve no less!

  • Continue to build a powerful, statewide cycling network to amplify the voices of pedestrians and cyclists across NY.

  • Plan the 2027 NY Bike Summit – Mark your calendar for May 17 – May 19, 2027 in Albany!

As a retired NYSDOT engineer, I know that decisions at the state level impact everyone who walks or bikes – and that NYBC is our voice in Albany!

My family supports NYBC monthly and through a year-end gift from our IRAs - a smart way to support cycling and save on taxes.

Now more than ever, NYBC needs our help to fight for safe streets and cycling across New York.

Ways to Give

The future of active transportation in New York depends on better laws and policies that protect cyclists and pedestrians, expanded education for everyone on our roads, and local, state, and federal investments in infrastructure to protect all vulnerable road users.

Collaborating with our partners in and outside government throughout the state, NYBC is building momentum in all these areas, and we can only do it with your support! You can make your onetime gift, monthly donation, or find out more about qualified charitable distributions from your IRA and other options at nybc.net/waystogive

Wishing you the very best as we pedal together through the uphill challenges heading our way in 2026 -
