Bike Month 2026 is here!

NYBC is hard at work - during Bike Month and every month - advocating for cyclists of all types - from teaching children to ride safely, to testifying to the legislature in Albany, to hosting events to bring all of us together.

New York’s cycling landscape continues to evolve as communities fight for bike lanes, riders navigate ever changing e-bike laws, and bicycle and pedestrian crashes and fatalities remain an urgent issue.

NYBC champions safer streets and better cycling through advocacy, education, and community building. We need your help more than ever – please consider making a donation this Bike Month!

Working to pass critical life-saving legislation in New York. We are thrilled that “Stop Super Speeders” is expected to be in the final NYS budget as an NYC pilot, and we will fight to make sure it is available to the rest of the state in the future. We are also excited that, with our help, five of New York's counties have local Defined Safe Passing/3' laws - with more counties on the way! NYBC continues to fight for a statewide Defined Safe Passing law to give New Yorkers the same protections that residents of 40 other states already have. Our work co-chairing the NYS Safe Streets Coalition helps make these successes possible. Bringing advocates to Albany isn’t cheap. Your donations make it possible!

Advocating for safe, pro-cyclist, common-sense e-bike regulations. E-mobility is at a turning point in New York. New Jersey recently adopted a controversial law requiring licenses, registration, and insurance for nearly all e-bikes. NYBC is working to ensure New York moves in a different direction - supporting low-speed, legal e-bikes as safe, affordable, accessible transportation and recreation, while making sure heavier, faster “e-motos” are kept off the streets.

Advocating in Washington with the League of American Bicyclists. Across the country, bike infrastructure is vulnerable to federal funding cuts, and NYBC is proud to lead the charge for NYS at the National Bike Summit each March. During this year’s summit, the federal administration threatened to remove the important 15th Street protected bike lane. New Yorkers sprang to action - attending the protests and supporting Washington Area Bicyclist Association and LAB in successfully fighting off that the immediate threat. NYBC keeps our finger on the pulse of state and federal shifts to ensure New York cyclists and pedestrians are protected and safe.

Hosting events that bring everyday cyclists and changemakers in cycling together. Registration is open for the June 1, 2026 Big Wheels Ride & Dine in Tarrytown! New this year, the Ride & Dine is a great opportunity to network with leaders in a friendly, informal setting: an easy bike ride followed by food, drink, and conversation. See below for more information and find out who you can get a chance to Ride & Dine with!

And, mark your calendar for next year's return of the New York Bike Summit, our premier event which happens every other year: May 17-19, 2027 in Albany!

Bicycling brings immense value to our lives and our communities - it’s a simple, powerful tool for health, connection, sustainability, and economic resilience.  Whether it’s a child’s first ride, a daily commute, a hard fought race, or a scenic weekend trip, biking helps New Yorkers move with joy, freedom and purpose. These benefits are increasingly under threat.

That’s why NYBC is doubling down - building a stronger organization to meet the moment and ensure that every New Yorker can ride safely and confidently, wherever they live.

Executive Director

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia.
