This 7 mile bike trek travels along portions of Lockport’s Lowertown and Uppertown, featuring historical stops including the Deep Cut, Erie Canal Flight of Five Locks, and our Lowertown Historic District, as well as forgotten train stations and lost homes of famous inventors! We ride on the famous towpath where Hoggees and their teams spent a great portion of their lives puling and towing the boats for decades on the early Erie Canal. The vistas are dramatic, and the story of how 19th century Navvies excavated up and over the ‘mountain ridge’ are compelling. If your stamina allows, gear down and climb the 60’ ascent back to the Locks District!

Lockport began with the digging of the canal and the building of the locks, and immediately became famous because of them. Come see the canal like it exists nowhere else in the entire NYS Erie Canal Corridor. The towpath begins and ends in Lockport today. No longer does it connect as it originally did.Come see why people come from all over the country and the world, just to ride on our towpath!

Join Us for a CycleNY Advocacy Ride on Long Island

Join us Sunday, October 14, 2018 for the third annual CycleNY Long Island Ride to benefit the NY Bicycling Coalition (NYBC.net). The ride begins at the Stony Brookside Bed and Bike Inn, with 28 mile and 44 mile route options. Both routes boast scenic water views and the area's beautiful mostly lightly traveled back roads. The longer route option includes some more challenging hills.

Our host, The Stony Brookside Bed and Bike Inn will provide us with a place to launch our ride and return for refueling with food, rehydrating with North Fork wines and New York craft brews and to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow cyclists!

As you may know, NYBC is the only state-wide bicycle advocacy group working to keep NY roads safe for all cyclists. For example, NYBC has been working tirelessly on trying to pass a 3 foot passing law in NY. We also have a robust statewide bike safety awareness and education program!

This ride is a way for us to meet other cyclists in our region, raise awareness of NYBC, grow membership and support, and to enjoy the beauty of Long Island's North Fork.
