AmtrakAmtrak is a wonderful way to explore the Empire State with your bicycle! There is nothing more fun than putting your bike on the train and spending a day or two riding back to your point of origin!  It's not perfect yet, but there are lots of options!

Read here for information about the current status of Amtrak's bicycle roll-on service.

NYBC has been deeply involved in Amtrak's efforts to make traveling with your bike more efficient, accessibile, and convenient. NYBC is a member of the Amtrak Bicycle Services Task Force advocating for "roll-on" service on New York corridor routes. "Roll-on" service means you can take your bike right on the train. Back when we first started this work, all bicycles had to be disassembled and boxed up to be carried on to a train!

NYBC is happy to see roll-on bicycle service on selected routes and continues to work with Amtrak to expand their roll-on options.  We want to see every New York train ... the Adirondack, Maple Leaf, Ethan Allen and Empire route trains ALL offer roll on service 100% of the time in order to encourage bicycle travel and tourism within New York. Doing so would connect tens of thousands of cyclists in New York City, Montreal, and Toronto with beautiful, bike-friendly areas in New York State. We also want to see trains like the Lake Shore Limited equipped for cylists to draw tourists from Boston, Chicago, and points beyond to the beautiful Empire State.

Bikes mean business and increasing New York's appeal as a cycling tourism destination is one of NYBC's goals!
